Antarctica
From our Antarctica travels…
Lansing, Alfred. Endurance. Basic Books, 2015. The definitive account of Shackleton’s voyage to the Antarctic and their story of survival. Well-written and with access to key source materials. A necessary read regardless of what you think of Shackleton.
Sancton, Julian. Madhouse at the End of the Earth: The Belgica’s Journey into the Dark Antarctic Night. Crown, 2022. An amazing recounting of the Belgica journey – especially informative since many of the places we visited were first discovered and named on this journey.
Around the World
Palin, Michael. Around the World in Eighty Days, 1988. His infamous trek around the world recreating the route of Phileas Fogg was a huge inspiration. Website. Media.
Verne, Jules. Around the World in Eighty Days, 1873. I mean, you have to include this book. Fun and quick – although the cultural references may not have aged well.
Camino de Santiago
Resources for our Camino trek…
Brierley, John. A Pilgrim’s Guide to the Camino Finisterre. Camino Guides, 2024. Brierley was one of the most well-known Camino guide book authors. The book is a mix of practical details (e.g. where to sleep, maps, alternate routes), history, and reflection. Brierley died in 2023.
Harms, Matthew; Dintaman, Anna; Landis, David. Camino Primitivo: Oviedo to Santiago on Spain’s Original Way. Village to Village Press, 2024. We carried this book with us on the Camino as a quick and constant reference.
Oliva, Hector. The Camino de Santiago: 150 Questions and a Puzzle to Solve, 2022.

Stingy Nomads provided excellent planners for our Camino including accessibility of services and key sites to see along the way. The information on the site was updated in 2025 so it is being kept current.
