Warm and muggy here. A dramatic change from the weather we were experiencing only a few weeks ago.
As expected, there were delays on the Amtrak route. By yesterday morning, the train was over an hour and a half late arriving into St. Paul. When we got to the station there were buses waiting, a bad omen. The train was being held at the station until about noon, about a four-hour delay. The buses were for those who needed to make a train connection in Chicago. There was space available, so we were able to make it aboard.
While not as comfortable as riding the train – and with the added benefit of getting stuck in road construction and rush hour traffic – we have to give Amtrak credit for making it as comfortable as possible. Everyone received a “snack bag” with pop, chips, and fruit before leaving St. Paul and was given some money for lunch when we stopped.
We were able to connect with some friends last night which was a nice treat.
A few hours from now, we board our train for New York.
