Suzhou: January 2015

It is said that people move to Suzhou from Shanghai to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. For the record, the population of Shanghai is about 24 million people; Suzhou has only 11 million. While that is a true statement, the overall scale needs to be considered methinks.

Blue skies can be a rarity in Suzhou due to the pollution caused by coal-fired power plants. However, with the lower temperatures of January and decreased weekend demand a sunny Sunday is altogether possible. People came out to enjoy Central Park: families, couples, and an amateur group singing opera.

Also included: a return trip to the Humble Administrator’s Gardens.
