It is said that people move to Suzhou from Shanghai to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city. For the record, the population of Shanghai is about 24 million people; Suzhou has only 11 million. While that is a true statement, the overall scale needs to be considered methinks.
Blue skies can be a rarity in Suzhou due to the pollution caused by coal-fired power plants. However, with the lower temperatures of January and decreased weekend demand a sunny Sunday is altogether possible. People came out to enjoy Central Park: families, couples, and an amateur group singing opera.
